Loved this one!
I actually read the earlier version of this that was included in Rogue Nights (it was my first read from Talia Hibbert!) and thought it was pretty good–I remember thinking, yeah, this is a decent story, but… and at the time I don’t think I could have told you exactly what the “but” was. It’s been a while since I read that version, so I also can’t tell you what she changed between that one and this (I mean, obviously it’s longer. I can’t tell you what was changed, though), BUT…OMG, it 100% makes all the difference!
There was no *but* about this version of the story–it was fabulous! A friends-to-lovers, big brother’s best friend (though big brother is off the page) story with a *slight* suspense-ish aspect, I 100% loved Nina and James’s story. I liked that though it is a brother’s best friend story, it doesn’t depend on the whole your brother will kill me for even looking at you schtick. (Seriously, once everyone is consenting adults, why would siblings care as long as no details are shared/seen?) Though it is true that better communication would have sped things along here, Ms Hibbert makes it work without drawing things out too long (I mean, it is only 114 pages long–how much drawing out can there be? Still… 🙂 )
We see just enough of Nina’s friends Jasmine and Rahul (hero and heroine of Wanna Bet? ) to make me bump their book higher up on my TBR–and having a teaser excerpt at the end of this book didn’t hurt, either. Just take my money, Ms Hibbert! 😉
And now for some reason, I really want a cupcake. Since I can’t have my own James, I guess that would make a decent consolation prize… 😉
