Top 5 requirements to be a congressman’s wife:
- Outgoing personality. (Definitely not an introvert who would rather stay at home reading).
- Poised, able to walk flawlessly in stilettos. (Mustn’t stumble around like a baby gazelle).
- Gracious at all times. (Stubborn red-heads who speak their minds needn’t apply).
- Family connections. (Already being acquainted with the cream of the crop will make everything so much easier).
- Knowing your husband’s life story. (When skeletons come out of the proverbial closet, you definitely don’t want to be blind-sided.).
A Love Unexpected
(Under Kansas Skies #1)

My one and only goal has always been to make it to congress. I’ve got it all: the looks, the brains, the connections… Except I missed one glaring requirement: a wife.
The conservative voters of Kansas don’t trust an unmarried man. Which means I need a bride. Immediately.
The lovely Odette Hastings seems to fit the bill. She’s a wholesome small-town girl, and most importantly, in need of cash. I’ll give her the money to take care of her elderly parents, and she’ll be the political arm candy I need.
The only problem is Odette is a little too beautiful, a little too intelligent, and much too distracting. I have to keep my eye on the prize. Even when I’m starting to think there might be something I’d rather have more…

Review:
A Love Unexpected is a sweet, closed-door marriage of convenience romance with a political (but not too political, thank goodness) twist. Debut author Leah Brunner has crafted a group of characters here that it’s easy to like and root for (pro tip, don’t read the synopsis of the second book until you’re done with this one, or you’ll get a major spoiler).
The reasons for *why* Madden had to get married ASAP are fairly believable–we all know it’s going to bite him in the butt sooner rather than later, though, right?–and the fact that Odette had crushed on him back in high school–and his obliviousness–added an extra layer to the drama of it all. Madden had a tendency to have his head up his posterior a lot in the book–thank goodness he gets over it by the end and we get a lovely HEA.
Another pro tip: don’t stop reading when you get to the words, “the end” because there’s still an epilogue coming, and you DO NOT want to miss it!

About the Author:
Leah writes romance full of witty banter and lovable characters. She spends most of her time writing… and also petting her Maine Coon.
Although she’s a Kansas girl at heart, Leah is a proud Air Force spouse and currently resides in Northern California with her husband and three children.
Her parents always told her she lived in her own little world and was oblivious to reality. The real world was simply too boring for Leah, writing is how she enjoys sharing her little world with others.
