Review:

More murders in Victorian England? No worries, Inspector Henry Field is on the case…

The 4th installment in the Field & Greystone series picks up shortly after the last left off (plotwise, anyway–unfortunately, possible relationship-wise we’re on hold, thanks to the pesky escaped prisoner), and Henry spends most of the book trying to solve the murders and keep Amelia safe…and far away from the murders. She spends the bulk of her time at home with a police guard, but somehow still manages to find a bit of trouble herself–mostly *not* because she goes out looking for it. (Ok, maybe she kind of does go out an look for it once…but she got some valuable information by doing so! As usual ;))

Henry and Amelia didn’t get as much of a chance to work closely together on the case as the other books, which was a bit of a bummer, but they both did some heavy duty yearning for each other while they were apart and had some really cute moments when they were together. And we had another meet the parents moment!

Yes, I know it’s a historical mystery with romantic elements, but I’m 110% here for those elements, ‘kay? 😉

As usual, Ms Williams did a nice job with the mystery, keeping her protagonists and the reader on their toes wondering who the killer was and who, if anyone, Henry could really trust at Scotland Yard. Not going to lie, I was on the edge of my seat at times with this one–and am already counting the days until we have book 5 🙂
