Backlist Review! OVER THE EDGE by Tonya Burrows (Edge Ops #1)

cover of over the edge by tonya burrows (edge ops, book 1).

LYRIC

I didn’t come to Monte Carlo for the glamour. I came for the drones.

My first mission with Edge Ops is sink-or-swim–go undercover at a black-market auction and get close to the man selling the most dangerous drone system ever built. Sentinel Mk-IV could change the face of warfare, and I’m the bait meant to lure him into a deal.

No second chances.

And no backup I can trust–just Flynn Shepherd, the cocky pain-in-the-ass who’s more chaos than cover.

FLYNN

They call me when plans go to hell. And let’s be honest, hell’s where the fun starts.

I didn’t mind getting paired with Lyric Renard. She’s sharp, focused, and way too serious for her own good. Which makes getting under her skin the highlight of my day. I’m supposed to protect her while she plays the part of a billionaire buyer. Simple, right?

But nothing about Lyric is simple.

Especially when danger hits close, and I realize I’d burn the whole world down before I let anything happen to her.

Because she isn’t just my op anymore…. she’s my everything.

Live on the edge. Love at your own risk.

Review:

Somehow I missed this when it came out, so I read it right after finishing book 2 ( Edge of Control )…oops!

Just as edge of your seat-ish as the second book, even though it has a whole different vibe to it…not going to lie, though–knowing that everyone would be safe and sound when the second book started and that Flynn and Lyric would be an established couple got me through some really stressful spots here.

Personality-wise Lyric and Flynn are very much an opposites attract relationship, though their individual circumstances have both of them feeling like they can’t be/don’t deserve to be a part of a group, which makes them more similar than they want to admit. They both had heartbreaking backstories, which made everything all the more meaningful when they were able to let their pasts go in the end to not only be a couple, but to be a part of the Edge Ops team.

Naturally this ended with a bit of a cliffhanger (for the team and the hero of the next book, not for our MCs here) that will take us into the next book, but I’ve already read that one so my blood pressure was safe 😉
