Is There A Difference Between A Secret And A Lie?
The big question in Our Little Secret is whether or not there’s a difference between a secret and a lie. Becca Daniels has a huge secret. She’s falling for her best friend’s brother. The problem is that Tori has a strict “no dating her brother” policy. It’s so strict that Tori doesn’t even allow her friends to be friends with Toby. So what’s Becca to do when she can’t deny her feelings for Toby any longer?
She keeps a secret. I mean, when Toby admits his feelings for Becca, there’s no other option, right? It’s not like Toby is a perfect stranger who Becca just has a crush on. She’s known him all her life. Even with Tori insisting that Becca is her friend and not Toby’s, they’ve come to know each other well. After Tori, Toby probably knows Becca better than anyone. In a perfect world, they’d be the perfect couple. But the biggest obstacle stands in their way. Becca doesn’t want to lose her best friend.
Secrecy can be fun at first, but it has a way of catching up to you in the end. Even keeping a secret to avoid hurting someone has consequences. Then again, maybe a secret is the same as a lie of omission. For Becca, the secret will threaten more than just her relationship with Tori.
So is there a difference between a secret and a lie? You decide.
