The Women of Brambleberry House are back!
Returning home to Cannon Beach and living in Brambleberry House, a place where good things seemed destined to happen, had brought Melissa Fielding and her young daughter such joy. Perhaps it was no accident when the single mom “bumped” into Eli Sanderson, and discovered the handsome doctor was also back in town. The ex-soldier was still so captivating, but also more guarded. Was now the time to put old ghosts to rest?

Navy SEAL to the Rescue is the start to a new series–Aegis Security–though we don’t really find out what that is or much about it until the very end. (And even then the details are pretty sketchy. It’s also not 100% clear at that point that Travis is going to join the company, though I guess we have to assume? The ending is all kind of abrupt. Book two sounds like it could be promising, though, so I’ll be on the lookout for it.)
Travis and Lila’s banter was really the best part of this book, along with some of their inner dialogue that often made me smile. The suspense was okay–the plot was a bit convoluted and the villain did the whole you’re-gonna-die-anyway-so-listen-to-how-brilliant-I-am bit near the end, which always seems more than a little silly but at least it gave the cavalry time to get there. Lila’s behavior crossed over into TSTL territory more than once (hence the need for the cavalry) and her reason(s) for leaving Travis were more than aggravating (especially since she herself realised how ridiculous they were with very little prompting shortly after). Her issues with her brother never get fully explained; but I’m hoping we’ll see more of a resolution there, perhaps when he gets his own book?
Verdict: an interesting series start; it kept my interest even when aspects of it made me a little crazy.
