by M.S. Force

The story begun in the initial Quantum Trilogy picks up on Oscar night after Academy Award-winning director Hayden Roth kisses the woman he desires above all others, even though he knows she can never be his. Addison York craves her boss’s best friend, Hayden, but he has never given her an ounce of encouragement—until tonight when he kissed her after winning the Oscar. Was that kiss the start of something or another in a long line of frustrations where Hayden is concerned? Something is keeping him from acting on the attraction that simmers between them, and Addie is determined to find out what it is. But when she stumbles upon the secret that Hayden, Flynn and her other close friends have kept from her, will she allow hurt feelings to get in the way of true love? When Hayden won’t share his BDSM lifestyle with her, Addie decides to conduct her own research. Will she be intrigued or repulsed? And what will Hayden do when he finds out how she’s been spending her evenings?

Oh my goodness–if you’re looking for something to keep you warm as the temperatures continue to plummet, look no further!

Rapturous begins on Oscar night; it’s during an after party, and the crew of Quantum is celebrating the multiple Oscars they’ve won for their latest movie…all except for Addie York, who’s almost too preoccupied with the kiss her longtime crush and sort-of-boss Hayden Roth planted on her before accepting his Best Director award to even notice the party going on around her. Instead, she’s quietly making plans to seduce Hayden, because she’s had it with waiting around for him.

Addie taking things into her own hands is kind of a recurring theme in this book. 😉

And Hayden is glad she does. Eventually. He’s got all kinds of issues with love and intimacy, so it takes him a while. But in the meantime, they can hardly keep their hands off of each other, and ohmygoodness, those are some pretty intense scenes. In between, though (and sometimes even during!) the characters had me smiling, and even laughing out loud at times. I really enjoyed what Ms. Force did with these two characters, and am looking forward to the rest of the series. The people of the Quantum group are a close-knit, eminently likable bunch–the teaser for book 5, Ravenous, already has me sold on it.

Rapturous is the 4th Quantum book, but it worked fine as a standalone (books 1-3 are a trilogy; they tell Flynn and Natalie‘s story). I didn’t feel at all lost not already knowing the characters going in; Ms. Force did a good job of letting you know what you needed to in order to get the story going without giving enough to frustrate those who’re familiar with the series already.
