When Fate tosses you in the deep end, it’s time to sink or swim.
Lydia Henson’s four-year-long engagement to Jason Montgomery is about to end in a Texas wedding everyone is anticipating. She’s come to accept Jason doesn’t want children. She can live without children. She can’t live without the man she loves.
Jason has never wanted a family. At least, that’s his story and he’s sticking to it. The falsehood is less emasculating than the truth. Yet when tragedy on the eve of their wedding lands Lydia with her sister’s children to raise, Jason finds himself surprisingly calm in the midst of the chaos.
Everything he swore he didn’t want seems as natural as breathing. But just as he gathers the courage to grab for the golden ring, another unexpected twist threatens to tarnish what could have been a shining future.
Warning: Sticky fingers and dirty diapers can change a couple forever.
Okay, that’s not really bad news. Especially since I’m sticking with the “I can’t die until I’m done with my TBR pile” theory… 😉
Texas Lullaby dealt with some pretty intense issues: the loss of close family members, grieving children, instant motherhood, postponed engagements, the reason why Jason’s sworn to never become a parent–and does so in a heartfelt and touching manner. There’s cute kids who neither feel like fashion accessories nor are too perfect to be believed (a major pet peeve!) From nearly the first page, Lydia and Jason are thrown some major life events, and we’re right there with them, rooting for them to reach their HEA come hell or high water.
And okay, there was an element of “this could all be solved with a nice, long, honest conversation” here. But every time I was about to get really aggravated at Jason or Lydia (or both of them!) for not having that talk, Ms. D’Alba threw us something new, distracting me from my frustration and sweeping me right back into the story.
Plus, it all gave Jason a perfect excuse to pull out all the stops in a big-time grovel. Does anyone know where I can get my own Jason Mongomery? I’d take his methods of atoning for his sins any day! 😉
I’m looking forward to going back and reading the rest of the series now–it’ll be that much sweeter seeing Jason and Lydia throughout, knowing how they’re going to end up!
