Review:
In real life I can take or leave both the X Games and reality TV, but Ms. Yarros makes both of them seem like one heck of a ride with the Renegades! You couldn’t pay me enough to even consider doing a third of the stuff they’re doing (except for the cruise ship. I’d be all over that part of it, even the classes and tutoring portion) but I’d happily sit here and read another couple hundred pages of Pax, Landon, and Penna doing all of that crazy stuff 🙂
Fortunately, that’s going to be possible, seeing as it’s the first in the series and all 😉
Pax and Leah were a fun couple–she started out a bit on the stodgy side, but she definitely had her reasons. Pax did a great job of helping her figure out how to start living again, and she somehow kept him focused just enough on his classwork (even though there wasn’t a lot of page time devoted to them actually doing schoolwork, thank goodness) so that the cruise will (hopefully! That part isn’t quite guaranteed yet) continue for another adrenaline-filled semester.
Seriously. How can we sign up for this type of work study program? Do they have it for graduate students, by any chance? Maybe in the MLIS field? 😉
Knowing Pax had a secret was making me a little crazy–I’m not going to lie–and I didn’t have a clue what it was until it was revealed, though a few things from early on made a lot more sense once you knew the whole story. The saboteur, too, came as a total surprise–never in a million would I have suspected that person. There goes my idea for a future series book…but hopefully Ms. Yarros is all over that and has a much better HEA in mind for the person who isn’t getting one in the way I thought they might.
See? No spoilers here. 😉
If I had to make a complaint, it’s that we see far more of the story from Leah’s POV than Paxton’s–but yeah, really, that’s about it. Not that I didn’t love Leah, but…Paxton, ya know? 😉
Nova’s next–bring. It. On!

Rebecca Yarros is a hopeless romantic and a lover of all things coffee, chocolate, and Paleo. She is the author of the Flight & Glory series, including Full Measures, the award-winning Eyes Turned Skyward, Beyond What is Given, and Hallowed Ground. She loves military heroes, and has been blissfully married to hers for fourteen years.
When she’s not writing, she’s tying hockey skates for her four sons, sneaking in some guitar time, or watching brat-pack movies with her two daughters. She lives in Colorado with the hottest Apache pilot ever, their rambunctious gaggle of kids, an English bulldog who is more stubborn than sweet, and a bunny named General Fluffy Pants who torments the aforementioned bulldog. They recently adopted their youngest daughter from the foster system, and Rebecca is passionate about helping others do the same.
