Review:
Stealing Her Best Friend’s Heart is the first book in Tara Randel‘s Golden Matchmakers Club series. It’s a slow burn friends-to-lovers romance. (It is from Harlequin’s Heartwarming Line, though, so keep in mind that “burn” and “lovers” are relatively mild terms here.)
Reid and Heidi’s story is a sweet romance. They were very close friends in high school (Heidi had just moved to town as a 14-year-old) who have grown apart somewhat in the years since, though since they both live in a small town they have stayed in contact. They’ve become the first project of the super secret Golden Matchmakers Club because Reid’s grandmother and Heidi’s former guardian, Gayle Ann and Alveda, are founding members of the club–though Gayle Ann is clearly more comfortable with trying to bend the younger generation to her will while Alveda spends much of the book trying to temper her friend’s expectations 😉
Fans of small town romances and sweet friends-to-lovers stories (with bonus meddling elders) should find a lot to like here. There were a few convenient coincidences moving the plot along (honestly I’ve come to expect them in this line of romances) and the matchmaking was a bit heavy-handed and unnatural at times, but it was still an entertaining read overall. Though this is the first in the series, Reid’s brother Logan and Heidi’s boss/BFF Serena had their own story earlier in Trusting Her Heart and therefore might seem familiar to longtime readers. Those who haven’t read that book, though, should do just fine starting here.
