This book was intense!
Seriously, reading it was so stressful–Ms Anderson really knows how to ratchet up the tension until you’re just not sure you (or the characters!) can take any more. And then she takes it up another notch…or seven…
Jed and Vivi’s story was fantastic. The twists and turns of the plot will keep you turning the pages (I legit gasped toward the end!), and the chemistry between Jed and Vivi is great. Michael was a wonderful character as well–somehow he still feels like a fleshed out character even though he doesn’t speak or really communicate well for much of the book. I didn’t quite buy Vivi’s ex’s supposed turn around toward the end, but I’ll hope for the best for Michael’s sake.
Jed had a tiny role in the background of the last book ( A Cold Dark Place –he was in one meeting, maybe?) but Alex and Frazer play some pretty big roles here again (as does a certain organization we might have thought was gone forever…). So yes, you *could* read this as a standalone, but it’s only book 2. Why not read them both? #yourewelcome 😉
