Review:
OMG, this book was intense! I’ve read some of the later books in the series and loved them, and decided it was time to go back to the beginning and see what I missed. I’m not sorry at all!
Mallory and Alex’s story was nonstop suspense, action, and drama from the first page to the last. Ms Anderson really knows how to ratchet up the tension, and she did it here with page turning skill. She gives us multiple POVs here–the hero and heroine, of course, but also the antagonist (whose identity is cleverly hidden until they are finally outed), one of his victims, and at least one of Mallory’s coworkers (and a future series hero!)–she has a real knack for knowing whose eyes we should be seeing each scene from for maximum impact.
There’s a whole lot of twists and turns in this story, and several hidden identities (who IS the killer? Who is the FBI leak? Who are the shadowy figures in charge of the organization Alex works for? Who CAN Mallory actually trust here???) and I don’t want to spoil a single one, so I’m going to have to be vague. But what I can tell you is that if you like romantic suspense stories that are twisty and dark and filled with complex characters who might be doing some wrong things for the right reasons (or are they?), then this is the book and series starter for you!
For the most part, all of the books I’ve read in the Cold Justice series can be read as standalones. But this is the first book! Start here! Characters to make appearances in books that are not their own quite a bit, so you might as well get started on the ground floor. I promise you won’t be sorry 🙂
