Review:

I was able to get my grabby hands on two of the stories in this anthology to read before my copy of the entire anthology shows up on my Kindle tomorrow, Falling for a Friend by Melonie Johnson and Simple Smile by Tawna Fenske. Both fit into the worlds of established series for the authors (Sometimes in Love for Johnson and Assassins in Love for Fenske) but both also should work just fine as standalone stories as well.

Falling for a Friend is a new romance for an established series character (Luna, Bo’s sister from Once Upon a Bad Boy –we do see Luna coming to terms with some of her earlier behavior here, but if you haven’t read that book yet you’ll still do fine reading this one) and if you’re anything like me, you’re going to want even more of Luna and Mark’s story–Ive got my fingers crossed that Ms Johnson will expand it into a longer book later. It’s a really cute friends-to-lovers romance with a character who’s learning to let herself love again and a really excellent bit of library humor. Seriously, it got two thumbs up from this librarian *and* her co-worker, and said co-worker is not easily impressed by many attempts at library humor. She’s been there a long time and often thinks (hopes, maybe?) she’s seen it all. 😉

Simple Smile features all of the Assassins characers, giving readers of the series a slice of their lives as they’re living their HEAs. It’s from the POVs of Sebastian and Nic from the last series book, Killer Smile, as they and the rest of their crew help a mother in trouble escape her absuer permanently and go on a “camping” trip. Despite its serious topic, it’s just as snarky and fun as the rest of the series, and it could definitely tempt new readers to pick up the other books as well.

Both stories were a lot of fun to read, and I can’t wait until I get the rest of the anthology in my hot little hands tomorrow. I see quite a few favorite authors on the participating authors list and always look forward to finding new authors through anthologies, especially when they’re charity ones and I know that my preorder dollars are going to a worthy cause.

Rating (so far, for 2 stories): 4 stars / A-
