I’m helping Julie Anne long count down to HOW TO TAME A WILD ROGUE, the next book in the Palace of Rogues series, coming July 25th!
This week is all about Hugh Cassidy, rugged American, and Lady Lilias Vaughn, the daughter of an earl, whose worlds collide at The Grand Palace on the Thames in I’M ONLY WICKED WITH YOU! Hugh is on a mission to find another girl entirely—one with whom he was secretly love, and who bolted from America across the sea—when he stumbles upon the most beautiful girl he’s ever seen… sneaking a cheroot. He quickly learnsshe’s the imperious daughter of an earl—and she has him sussed as a peasant. She learns the hard way about underestimating our gorgeous, burly American: He tattles on her to her father (the Earl of Vaughn and his family are staying in a suite at The Grand Palace on the Thames). And thus begins a tensely sensual pas de deux. She’s a spoiled snob. (He thinks). He’s a simple brute (she thinks). If only the attraction wasn’t sooooo incendiary and forbidden. If only they both weren’t both far, far more than they seem. If only they didn’t seem destined to get their hearts badly broken.
My favorite thing about the book is that even when the characters are doing the exact opposite of what any reasonable reader would want them to, Ms Long is able to make us believe that *they* believe they’re doing the only thing that they possibly can…and eventually she also manages to get them to do exactly what they need to in a way that feels just as genuine. Even if it makes me cry.
Especially when it makes me cry. 😉
