Coming home to find out my ex is my new roommate is a nightmare…especially when I’ve been pretending to hate her for years.
Harper Davidson has been ingrained on my heart since we were kids, and now she’s tattooed on my skin. But she’ll never know about either. Not when she’s better off thinking we’re enemies.
Having her in my space every day and sharing a wall with her every night is a challenge I never saw coming. A challenge I’m not sure I’m up to.
Especially when our daytime games turn into nighttime dares, pushing each other to the breaking point until our neighbors know exactly who’s making her scream.
As lines blur and feelings deepen, we begin teetering on the edge of something more. And it’s becoming harder to pretend that this is nothing—that she is nothing.
Because this second chance is starting to feel like a last chance.
It’s always been her for me, but I’m broken beyond repair and don’t know how to be the man she needs. These demons in my closet are never silent, and I’ll do anything to keep them from dragging her down with me.
Even if that means letting her go again.
Review:
Phew–Levi and Harper’s story! Where to start?
This is a second chance romance with lots of angst and so many secrets. It does have one of my least favorite reasons for the original breakup–the dreaded one of us has decided we know what’s best for the other one of us and we’re ending things but not going to be honest about why, we’re just going to make them hate us trope. To be fair, though, they were teenagers when he made that (ahem) ill-advised decision and he makes up for it…eventually. But man, there was a lot of would you just tell her already? internal screaming going on in my head while I listened.
In a good way, honest 😉
I did love the forced proximity angle of the story, and Levi’s landlady (who organized the there’s only one apartment angle and kept “accidentally” giving them pot cookies, many of which were in…interesting shapes) was a hoot! They offered a nice reprieve from some of the weightier scenes and made me LOL more than once. Also–the family text thread. So much LOL-ing!
It broke my heart more than a little that no one in Levi’s family realized the heavy burden he was carrying from his mother’s death–for so many years! It was such a relief when he came clean to everyone and took steps to finally start healing. Side note: I seriously love his siblings. How have I not read their books yet?
Starting a series with the last book isn’t ideal…but honestly, the family group chat alone was enough to make me these characters’ #1 fan and I had the rest of their books on my TBR by the time I was a few chapters in 🙂
I listened to the audiobook version, which was done in a duet style–it honestly took me a minute to figure out that when females were speaking the female narrator spoke the words and when male characters were speaking the male narrator did; the transition was that seamless. I really liked it! Zachary Johnson even gave all of the brothers their own voice, even in the text thread–next level narration! (Lucy Rivers did a great job too, but there’s so many male voices in that text thread that his efforts there really stand out). Chances are excellent that I’ll be listening to the rest of the series as well, that’s how much I enjoyed the style <3

About the author:
Award-winning USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Brighton Walsh spent a decade as a professional photographer before taking her storytelling in a different direction and reconnecting with her first love—writing. She likes her books how she likes her tea—steamy and satisfying—and adores strong-willed heroines and the protective heroes who fall head over heels for them. Brighton lives in the Midwest with her real life hero of a husband, her two kids—both taller than her—and her dog who thinks she’s a queen. Her boy-filled house is the setting for dirty socks galore, frequent dance parties (okay, so it’s mostly her, by herself, while her children look on in horror), and more laughter than she thought possible.
