New Release Review! SEARCHING FOR VALOR by Tonya Burrows (Redwood Coast Rescue #9)

Searching for Valor cover

He’s a broken hero trying to hold it all together.

Rylan Cross has spent his life saving others, but lately, he’s the one falling apart. Haunted by his past and the betrayal of the one woman he thought he could trust, he’s drowning in alcohol and self-doubt. The pressure of counseling his teammates through their traumas is crushing him, and he knows it’s only a matter of time before he shatters.

She’s the woman who betrayed him—and she needs his help.

Isabella “Izzy” Delgado never imagined she’d be back in Rylan’s life, not after a devastating mistake that nearly cost his sister her life. But now two children are missing, and Izzy knows that Rylan and his team are the only ones capable of finding them. If only she can convince him to set aside his anger long enough to help—and maybe, just maybe, trust her again.

Their last hope lies with each other—and a courageous K9.

As Rylan and Izzy race against time to find the missing kids, every step of the search drags them closer to the past they’re both trying to forget. But with Rylan on the verge of self-destruction, it’s Izzy—and a spirited K9 named Valor—who rally the team to bring him back from the edge. This dog knows only courage—and he won’t back down until he’s saved them all.

Searching for Valor is the explosive conclusion to the Redwood Coast Rescue series—a gripping, emotional rollercoaster of redemption, danger, and a second chance at love. If you crave edge-of-your-seat action, intense emotional stakes, and an unforgettable enemies-to-lovers romance, don’t miss this powerful final chapter by Tonya Burrows!

Review:

Solid ending to a great series!

I loved Izzy and Rylan’s story–though it was difficult to read at times, because OMG were they both going through a lot! and things absolutely got much darker before they got better–their redemption arcs were strong and the HEA was absolutely lovely. Valor was, of course, the absolute good-est of all the good dogs (and it was well past the time when Rylan should have gotten his own dog!) Izzy’s family was an absolute delight, and the teaser we get for the next spin-off series has me practically salivating for my chance to read it.

Since this is the final book in the series and the resentment toward Izzy by both the team and Rylan stems from events in the previous book ( Searching for Secrets ), at the very least I’d suggest reading that book first if you haven’t. All of the series characters do show up here and some of their backstories are fairly relevant–seeing a “before” Rylan interacting with the team would be especially helpful–so though I wouldn’t say you have to have read the other books before getting to this one, doing so would definitely give you a more complete picture of the group dynamics at play as well as the past events that are still shaping their stories now. (Also–the first book in the next series features a character we not only see here but also saw quite a bit of in an earlier book, so I honestly would suggest reading them all. You won’t be sorry, I promise!)
