Release Day Review! SWEET THING by Kate Meader (Chicago Players #1)

Cover of Sweet Thing by Kate Meader.

A surprise single dad, nanny, age gap, hockey romance!

Lars

I just found out I’m a dad.

My one-night stand dropped a baby bombshell in my local bar where I was celebrating my team’s win. Then she fled, leaving me holding my new daughter.

Thank God for Adeline. The daughter of my teammate and closest friend on the Chicago Rebels, she practically raised her little sister and knows exactly how to deal with this situation. I need a nanny; she needs a job. Problem sorted, right?

Not so fast …

Adeline

I think you’re the sexiest guy alive.

That’s what Lars Nyquist overheard me say while recounting my embarrassing crush on him. Yeah, that Lars Nyquist. Defenseman for the Chicago Rebels. Owner of the thickest thighs in the league. More than a decade my senior. Oh, and my dad’s teammate.

My only option? Leave the country, of course. Luckily, I’d already planned a round-the-world trip with my bestie and by the time I returned to Chicago a year later, I expected my blunder would be long forgotten. Shows what I know. Now I’m lying awake in the bedroom next to his while playing nanny to his surprise little girl. But I can ignore this stupid infatuation. I have to. Even though the sight of Lars learning to be a dad leaves me breathless and takes that crush to a whole other level.

One that has the potential to break my sorry little heart …

Review:

A new generation of Chicago Rebels hockey romances? Yes, please!

Addy and Lars’ story was teased in the prequel novella Holly Jolly Rebel , which in itself was a fabulous bridge between the Rookie Rebels books and the new Chicago Players series. I love the idea of starting out with Theo “Superglutes” Kershaw’s oldest daughter in an age gap romance with his team- and linemate–absolutely perfect! Throw in a secret baby that Addy just *has* to act as a nanny for for an unspecified time–live in, of course–and OMG yes. ALL the yeses.

Watching Lars go from I can’t possibly be a good dad, mine was so toxic to the guy who can’t wait until his daughter has enough hair for him to learn to French braid was absolutely everything! The romance was lovely–just the right progression of angsty yearning to slowish burn to full on burn–and I loved that they each remembered to put Mabel’s well being and happiness first, but to also take care of each other. Gah–so much cuteness! And so much spice 🙂

Fans of Ms Meader’s first two Chicago hockey series (Chicago Rebels and Rookie Rebels) will be thrilled to see so many previous series characters here, though as the first in a new series it would be a great place to start your Chicago hockey romance journey too. <3
