The Ex-Girlfriend Speaks Out

Readers may know Trish DeVign from her role as heroine in Baby by Design (Designing Love #1), but she’s more than a consummate planner turned baby-obsessed interior designer. She was once involved with her best friend’s fiancée, Stuart Perrault, whose “Happily Ever After” plays out in my August release Marriage by Design (Designing Love #2).

A love triangle! Scandalous isn’t it?

TD: Not really. You’re purposely leaving out important parts of the story in order to make it sound more scandalous than it is. This was never a love triangle. I’m happily married to Tony Corcarelli and was actually pregnant with our second child by the time Stuart and Angie started dating.

EA: Details. Details. *grins* Fine. No love triangle, but it had to be odd to have your ex-boyfriend interested in your best friend, Angie Corcarelli, who by the way is also your sister-in-law. Did you try to warn her off him?

TD: No. Stuart is a good guy, and like I already said, I’m married to someone else.

EA: No reservations whatsoever?

TD: I didn’t say that. I worried Angie would, well, for lack of a better expression, chew Stuart up and spit him out. She isn’t exactly easy on men. I mean, she has her reasons for being so tough, but Stuart wasn’t someone she needed to worry about.

EA: Why not? He broke up with you, didn’t he? Weren’t you afraid he would break her heart, too?

TD: He didn’t break my heart. It was a mutual decision. Neither one of us could get what we needed from a long distance relationship. By the time he returned to town, I’d found something better with Tony. Stuart isn’t the kind of guy to break anyone’s heart. He’s very careful. It’s what I liked most about him.

EA: But Angie isn’t careful? She would break someone’s heart or chew him up and spit him out as you put it?

TD: Well, not on purpose. She’s just very emotional. God, she hates when I call her that, but she is. Her reaction time is very quick. She leaps before she looks. I like that about her because it’s very different from me, but it has its problems. I just didn’t want to see either one of them embroiled in something that turned ugly.

EA: Speaking of ugly, it couldn’t have been pretty to convince Tony that your ex-boyfriend was the right guy for his sister. How did that go?

TD: *laughs* That’s still a work in progress. Tony knows I love him, and he knows Stuart loves Angie, but that doesn’t keep him from saying some pretty colorful things under his breath during Sunday family dinners. Tony will never fully understand a man who wears a sweater vest, and he’ll never understand what his sister is doing with the man in a sweater vest. It’s actually pretty funny to watch it all unfold.

EA: You know what? I believe you. You’re genuinely happy for Angie and Stuart.

TD: Of course I am. Have you seen my husband? *blushes* It’s all very, very good. Tony and Trish. Angie and Stu. That’s the way it was always supposed to be.

EA: Absolutely.

To get to know more about Tony, Trish, Angie, and Stuart, read their love stories, starting with Baby by Design and continuing with Marriage by Design, two easy-to-read, contemporary romances filled with charming characters, emotional moments, and of course, sexy times.

Marriage by Design

About MARRIAGE BY DESIGN:

Family first. That motto led Angie Corcarelli to become a carpenter and take over the family construction business when she was barely out of her teens. And now it’s leading her into battle against her best friend’s ex. Stuart Perrault and his swanky, family-run construction engineering firm have been tapped to oversee a highway project that includes demolishing a stretch of row homes. Over her dead body will it come to that. Stuart Perrault knows a thing or two about family allegiance. For the past fifteen years, he’s been working alongside his brother and father, dreaming about the day he’d be named CEO of the Perrault Group. But then came the bridge debacle in Paris. And now his dream seems a little further away. As he fights his way back to the top of the company, he isn’t about to watch another project fall apart just because his ex-girlfriend’s best friend is a loose cannon.

When Stuart’s father insists he take Angie out to dinner and neutralize things, he obliges. But has he bitten off more than he can chew? Angie isn’t at all what he expected, and his usual self-control doesn’t seem to work when he’s around her.

The more time Angie spends with Stuart, the harder it is to see him as the bad guy she’d believed him to be. But falling for each other would mean going against their respective families. Are they strong enough for that?
