In this first book in a thrilling new romantic suspense series…

Justice “Grey” Greystone was fired from the FBI for insubordination. Now the FBI wants him to use his renegade skills to take down a serial killer who’s above the law. To trap the Lion, Grey will need to send the perfect woman undercover.

Sydney Banfield runs a women’s shelter and bends the law daily to help victims of abuse escape their painful lives. Three of the women she’s recruited for government jobs have become victims of the Lion. If Syd has her way, the vicious killer will never touch another woman again.

Grey and Sydney set a trap—with Sydney as the sexy bait—but the Lion adds a complex twist to his homicidal agenda. With Sydney’s life on the line, Grey must race against the clock to catch a killer who’s as unstoppable as he is evil.

My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this–it has a nice blend of suspense, danger, romance, and snarky humor with great characters. I absolutely loved Syd and Grey, two people with less-than-savory backgrounds and a lot to hide, neither of whom was quite ready to let someone get close–even though they both really needed to have something in their lives beyond their jobs. I wanted them to get together from the very beginning, when it was clear that they were perfect for each other even while they were getting on each others’ nerves. (Every time Syd called him “Fed Boy” I just had to smile.)

Plus, there are cupcakes, which feature prominently in one of the best endings I’ve read, ever. Seriously, I made Mini Moe #2 listen to it…and she agreed that it was awesome. (No small miracle, getting your fourteen-year-old to agree with you on ANYTHING, believe me!) Every happy ending should have cupcakes, IMHO.

The suspense in the novel was very well done–I *thought* I might know “whodunnit” from about the 50% mark, but I wasn’t absolutely sure until all was revealed. From that point on, the reading was extremely intense…exactly as it should be. I could not put my ereader down, even though I was supposed to be getting ready to leave for the day.

This series is definitely going on my “must buy” list. (I cannot tell you how beyond excited I was to see that Monroe was going to get the next book. He’s not in this one a whole lot, but what we do see of him I really liked–and that was before I read the teaser!)

A- rating.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review–and went out and bought my own copy as well. I liked it that much!
