New Release Review! HER FAVORITE REBOUND by Jackie Lau (Cider Bar Sisters #4)

Her Favorite Rebound cover

She’s got a billionaire boyfriend, but life is far from perfect…

Thirty-four and divorced, Sierra Wu is a constant disappointment to her family. They approved of her former career as an engineer but were horrified when she quit to run a small greeting card store.

So, the last thing she expected in her not-so-spectacular life was being swept off her feet by Colton Sanders. Yes, that Colton Sanders, the billionaire. They’ve been together for a year, and despite his reputation with women, it’s going well.

There’s only one tiny problem: Jake Tong.

A former friend and employee of Colton, the irritatingly handsome Jake tells Sierra to break up with Colton for her own good. She refuses, of course. Why should she trust Jake?

But as she continues to bump into Jake in awkward situations, the attraction between them grows, and she starts wondering if he’s right about Colton…

Review:

If you’ve read previous Cider Bar Sisters books, you probably got the same vibe that I did, that there was something…off…about Sierra’s billionaire boyfriend, Colton Sanders. (If you haven’t read the other series books, this can work as a standalone–you’ll just miss out on all those fun little, “Right! I remember them from…” moments when past book characters pop up here.) Why is he so…not present in Sierra’s life? Does he really deserve her, his fame and success aside?

Jake, the hero of Her Favorite Rebound knew right away that of course Colton didn’t. He didn’t really have any evidence, besides knowing when he saw Sierra across a crowded room that she was the one for him *and* the fact that as a former employee he knew Colton was a total sleeze. For him, that was enough. For Sierra? Not so much.

Despite his kind of creepy she’s going to be mine one day vibes (even when we’re talking PNR fated mates trope, it always has an undercurrent of stalkerdom, doesn’t it?) Jake–once he kind of creeps Sierra out with his “you’re too good for him” declarations–is actually pretty good at keeping his distance and letting Sierra call the shots. And it doesn’t hurt that Jake’s issues with Colton (as a businessman *and* a significant other) have Sierra wondering. And Jake *did* buy the giant stuffed alpaca from her shop when she told him to, which of course is a plus in his favor…

I liked that despite what a tool Colton eventually proves himself to be and the harsh criticism she frequently gets from her family, Sierra maintains a fairly healthy sense of self-esteem throughout the book. Of course it doesn’t hurt that both her fellow “Cider Bar Sisters” and Jake never let her forget how awesome she is either. And when her breakup from Colton turns into the best rebound relationship(?) with Jake that she’s ever had…well, the ending of this one becomes inevitable. But it’s still a heck of a lot of (super steamy!) fun getting to that point 😉

Now all I have to do is wait for poor Rose’s book…it can’t come soon enough, for either of us!
