When Lord Hawkridge inherits a penniless marquessate, he must abandon his courtship of the lowborn girl he loves. Years later, she rises from commoner to textiles heiress. Hawk has never banished her from his heart. Here’s their chance to share his home! But how can he convince a woman whose trust he destroyed that he desires her far more than her money?
Faith Digby’s chaotic world is too full to bother with men. She controls half a boarding school, one life-endangering secret, and two recently gentrified parents. There’s no time for the old flame roaring back into her life. Not when admitting she still loves him would imperil everything and everyone she holds dear…
Lord of Temptation is the fourth book of a new series. In the Rogues to Riches historical romance series, Cinderella stories aren’t just for princesses… Sigh-worthy Regency rogues sweep strong-willed young ladies into whirlwind rags-to-riches romance with rollicking adventure.
Audiobook available on Audible, iTunes, Amazon, and WhisperSync.

She was beautiful. A few dark tendrils had escaped from her unbonneted hair and a pair of spectacles he hadn’t even known she owned perched forgotten on the edge of her nose. She might as well have been draped in nothing but pearls, such was the desire he had for her.
It was the same magnetism they had always shared. Fighting a losing battle against a pull more powerful than their will to resist. From the moment she stepped into the schoolroom, every beat of his heart had belonged to her, every breath from his lungs a whisper of her name.
He had meant to ignore the attraction. Had tried valiantly to pretend it was all in his head. That there was nothing between them. That she didn’t care. That neither did he.
But here she was. Gazing up at him with huge green eyes as a telltale pulse fluttered at her throat. Close enough to kiss.
Now was not the time for conversation after all. Words were the enemy that kept cropping up between them. Every time he attempted to tell her how he felt he only succeeded in pushing her away.
He was done talking. He would show her. There would be no chance of misunderstanding.
Hawk lowered his mouth to hers, fully expecting her to push him away before their lips could touch.
Instead of a battle, he got a firestorm. Her fingers curled in his hair, tangling possessively even as he crushed his mouth to hers.
Lord of Temptation is a second chance romance, one of my favorite troupes. Hawk persued Faith ten years ago, but dropped his courtship when his then-guardian and mother convinced him that marrying a commoner without a suitable dowry was not going to be enough to save his floundering estate. He has regretted giving in to their suggestion ever since, never managed to snag a wealthier wife or to forget his first love and now fate has put her in his path once again–with one major secret and complication he never suspected…
This was my first book from this author, so I am not sure if a lot of introspection on the parts of the main characters is the norm for her or merely the way things were for these characters. It seemed as if both Faith and Hawk spent more time within their own heads than they did accomplishing things outside of them. There was a lot of wondering, second-guessing, musing over the past and agonizing about the future going on when I would rather have seen them getting something done–at times it was quite frustrating. Things end well (if a bit conveniently), though, and there are several cute family and couple moments along the way, ending the book on a satisfying note overall.
Lord of Temptation is the fourth book in the series, but works just fine as a standalone.
Rating: 3 stars / C+
