Special Edition Review! ICE PLANET BARBARIANS by Ruby Dixon (Ice Planet Barbarians #1)

Ice Planet Barbarians special edition cover

The international publishing phenomenon Ice Planet Barbarians, now in a special print edition!

Fall in love with the out-of-this-world romance between Georgie Carruthers, a human woman, and Vektal, an alien from another planet, in this expanded edition with bonus materials and an exclusive epilogue–in print only!

You’d think being abducted by aliens would be the worst thing that could happen to me. And you’d be wrong. Because now the aliens are having ship trouble, and they’ve left their cargo of human women–including me–on an ice planet.

We’re not equipped for life in this desolate winter wasteland. Since I’m the unofficial leader, I head out into the snow to look for help.

I find help all right. A big blue horned alien introduces himself in a rather . . . startling way. Vektal says that I’m his mate, his chosen female–and that the reason his chest is purring is because of my presence. He’ll help me and my people survive, but this poses a new problem.

If Vektal helps us survive, I’m not sure he’s going to want to let me go.

Review:

I mean–parts of this are totally OTT (*two* of his body parts are ribbed for her pleasure–and his “spur”? Don’t even get me started :D) and other parts are super convenient (the existence of all the single male aliens, the elder cave) and of course it’s fated mates all over the place, but it’s a solid story and so much fun to read–with such clear series potential! (Spoiler alert: the series has already happened. But the special edition print version I read an ARC of is brand new–fingers crossed more of them will be put out in print too)

The rest of the series is available on KU, and I’ve read 3 novels and 3 novellas so far; I really like how Ms Dixon has managed to give us such a variety of stories from what could be a limiting premise–12 human women crash landing on an ice planet, encountering and being adopted into the tribe of aliens who live there. But her cast of characters is varied, with rich backstories, and even though each couple discovers their (ahem) *unique compatibilities* on their own (OMG, that spur!), it somehow hasn’t gotten old yet 😉

If you’ve heard content warnings about the first book, the scene from the very beginning has been removed from the special edition version–the author explains why in her note at the end–and the honeymoon novella and a new bonus epilogue are added in at the end, just in case you’re not ready to say goodbye to Georgie and Vektal yet.

Plus, you know, there’s 21 more books to go. And those caves are only so big–so honestly, you’ll be seeing them a lot in future books. No complains here! 😉
