Title: Falling for His Best Friend
Author: Katee Robert
Series: Out of Uniform #2
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: May 19, 2015
Publisher: Entangled Brazen
Synopsis:
Avery Yeung’s biological clock just went off early. Thanks to her family’s medical history, she’s running out of time to get knocked up. And the only guy within donating distance? Her overprotective—and irritatingly hot—best friend. So clearly she needs an anonymous donor…
Anonymous donor? Over Sheriff Drew Flannery’s dead body. While daddyhood will never be in the cards for a man with his past, Drew won’t let Avery shop for a “popsicle pop.” He’ll do what’s right for his best friend by doing his best friend. But only if they do it properly.
But there’s nothing “proper” about it. Between the bed, the kitchen counter, and against his squad car, Avery and Drew are having the hottest sex ever. They can’t get enough of it—or each other. And without knowing it, they’ve crossed the one line that could ruin their friendship forever…
See where it all began with book 1 of the Out of Uniform series, In Bed with Mr. Wrong.
Excerpt:
Drew Flannery was kissing her. No. Kissing wasn’t a strong enough word for what he was doing. He claimed her lips, tongue thrusting into her mouth as if it had every right to be there.
God help her, but Avery wasn’t sure it didn’t.
She melted against him, her hands going to his chest and touching him in a way she’d never dreamed would be reality. He was so hard and warm and, oh lord, his hands gripped her hips, jerking her tighter against him and eliminating what tiny space there’d been to begin with. But he wasn’t
done. Drew pulled her shirt off in a swift move that barely broke their kiss.He nipped her bottom lip, sending zings through her entire body. His hands were everywhere—her back to unhook her bra, down her spine, grabbing her ass and grinding her against him.
“Avery,” he groaned against her mouth. “Holy shit.”
Holy shit is right.
Review:
Right off the bat Falling for His Best Friend asks you to go along with a premise that’s pretty out there–that two purely platonic best friends would suddenly decide to start sleeping together just so one of them can get pregnant.
What the heck–go along with it. Why not? Avery’s got an inarguably good reason for deciding to have a baby, even if it is kind of silly that Drew would immediately jump to “we must do this the old fashioned way” instead of “let’s go the fertility route the way she was going to”. But hey, he’s a guy, so it’s not outside the realm of possibility that his mind would skip right over that bit of logic.
Once you can get past the premise, the rest of the story is a great example of the friends-to-lovers troupe, as the title promises. Avery and Drew have clearly been half in love with each other since forever, as is obvious to everyone in their small town but them. Their chemistry is fantastic, though their hang ups are legion.
Which is where the rest of the story comes in, of course…
If you’ve read book one, In Bed with Mr. Wrong , then you’ll love the Bri and Ryan time in this book. If you haven’t yet (ahem, like me) you’ll probably find yourself adding it to the TBR or even out-and-out picking up a copy (got it on audio. Cuing it up next.) It also looks like Avery’s sister Alexis is being set up for a future series book, which you can definitely sign me up for as well…her story is going to be an emotional one, and she definitely deserves an HEA of her own.
In the meantime, though, check out Avery and Drew’s story. You won’t be sorry!
