Getting even.

One step at a time…

Maddie Kingston just walked away from everything in order to take over her family’s struggling shoe business. And she’s in some serious trouble. The majority of the company’s shares have been bought out by none other than Maddie’s ex-boyfriend, self-made billionaire Nick Holter. Now Maddie needs his help…even if it means buying Nick from a charity bachelor auction.

After the Kingstons destroyed his grandfather’s career, Nick vowed to take over their company. He’s inches from victory when he finds himself bought and paid for…by his sexy ex-girlfriend who’s hell-bent on saving her family’s company. Between their families’ feud and their own unfinished business, tempers – and emotions – run hot. Too hot.

Because kissing with the enemy is a guaranteed shoe-in for trouble…

Miranda is dishing the dirt on her two main characters in Heart and Sole

Here’s three things about the hero Nick Holter that you might not know:

  1. On the day Maddie, my heroine, was supposed to be married, Nick watched football, washed down salsa and chips with beer, and broke up with his girlfriend
  2. He bought his grandpa a new condo and other stuff.  Gramps rejected everything but the big screen TV.
  3. He remembers what Maddie wore on her first day of kindergarten.

Here’s three things about the heroine Maddie Kingston that you might not know:

  1. She took 5 years to get through college because she couldn’t decide on a major.
  2. She had a job dressing mannequins at Macy’s and got fired when she dressed them in rainbows for a gay pride parade that was passing by.
  3. After she runs out of money, she borrowed her sister’s honeymoon money to bid on Nick at a bachelor auction for Philadelphia Children’s Hospital.

Here’s the downfall with reading fiction: now that I’ve finished Heart and SoleI WANT THOSE SHOES.

Seriously, Maddie and a mystery character (not giving anything away; you’re going to have to read it yourself!) design some fantastic-sounding shoes–they’re gorgeous AND comfortable. I. Must. Have.

Could a non-fictional shoe company get right on that? Thanks.

Back to the book–it’s an adorable read. It had kind of a Romeo and Juliet (without the sucky ending)-slash-Persuasion vibe going on that I really enjoyed. Nothing can beat a well-written second-chance romance story, and the small town summer weekend setting made it a perfect read for a lazy afternoon in a hammock 🙂

Nick and Maddie were a great couple–if anyone deserved a second chance, it was definitely them. The family dynamics going on in the story–Maddie’s parents, brother, sister, sister-in-law and twin nephews and Nick’s grandfather–were definitely a plus. Maddie’s grandmother was a major pain in the butt (but on the plus side, I totally called her big secret–ha!) but a necessary foil to the other characters. All in all, I really enjoyed this one from start to finish.

But I still want some of those shoes.

Dare I hope for a story featuring Maddie’s sister and Nick’s partner next? 😉
