One disastrous night. One devastating man. One diabolical proposition.
Gabriel Marchand ruthlessly fought his way up from the gutters of St. Giles to preside over London’s most exclusive gaming hell. Few dare cross him. But when a young earl gambles away his inheritance, Marchand makes an enemy: a woman with wit like a dagger and the softest eyes he’s ever seen.
Spend a night in his bed, and he’ll call off the debt. This is the offer he makes Guinevere Woodville, the earl’s sister, when she blames him for her brother’s disaster. She’d rather die, of course. But when their seething enmity gives way to sizzling attraction at The Grand Palace on the Thames, his offer haunts them. Soon it seems a matter of not if, but when.
It’s not long before Ginny is facing two stark truths: the so-called worst man in London is the best man she’s ever known….and keeping him would mean losing everything and everyone else she loves. But Marchand has one final card to play…and losing everything is a risk he’s willing to take if it means a chance to love her forever.
Review:
This book was everything!!!!!
Somehow, every book in this series is even better than the last (which honestly shouldn’t be possible at this point), and Ginny and Gabriel’s story is no exception! Ms Long really knows how to write relatable characters with complicated pasts who absolutely shouldn’t fit together but totally do in the end. The last quarter or so had me tearing up constantly–I was downright sobbing at one point–but oh, that ending. It left me feeling absolutely all the feels.
(For pity’s sake, I’m tearing up again right now, thinking about the very last scene we got–which featured only secondary characters. That’s how much Ms Long draws you into this world; I feel personally invested in the life of everyone at the (Grand) Palace of Rogues on the Thames.)
Ginny and Gabriel’s story is an opposites attract, forced proximity, antagonists to lovers gem of a book–truly, the banter between these two is absolute gold. Between their conversational zingers and Dot’s, well, everything, I laughed out loud so much while reading this one! Snort laughing may also have been involved–I will neither confirm nor deny.
But the romance–it was truly unmatched. I swear their first kiss made *me* weak in the knees.
This maybe seemed like it might be the last of The Palace of Rogues books? I hope it isn’t–I’m nowhere near ready to leave Delila, Angelique, Tristan, Lucien, Dot, Mr. Pike, and Mr. Delacourte behind–but if it is, I can make my peace with it if this is the ending <3
