I’m never going to say no to a librarian/”bad boy” romance…and if it’s done as a duet audiobook? Then it’s going to be a loud HECK, YES from me!
Haven and Cash’s romance is a fake dating/(unofficial) bodyguard, friends-to-lovers romance where he fell first and she’s got a complicated past (high control religion was involved, and inappropriate behavior from a youth pastor is implied, but not explicit on the page) that appears to be bringing an element of danger into her present–it’s romantic suspense light for most of the story, but things get way more intense later on.
She also needs his assistance to bring her…dating skills…up to 2020s relationship standards. Cash is more than up to the task…pun intended 😉
For all of his reputation and the fact that he’s done time, Cash is pretty much a walking green flag. His only toxic trait is thinking he’s not good enough for Haven–we all know that’s not true, but she’s going to spend her time convincing him otherwise (and finally succeed. Spoiler!) Haven has put herself through school (2 degrees!) and is making a new life for herself outside of the strict religious environment she grew up in, and watching her flourish in her job at the local library and finally find friends in her community is an absolute delight.
Both narrators did a great job bringing the characters to life through their narration. I really enjoyed listening to Haven and Cash get their HEA, and can’t wait to see them be all happy and adorable together in future series books <3
This is the second book in Ms York’s Dragonfly Creek series, and though there were *slight* spoilers for the first book, it would work just fine as a standalone. And trust me, you’re going to want to read Hope and Zane’s book even if you do so out of order.
