New Release Review! THE LEGEND OF A ROGUE by Darcy Burke (Legendary Rogues #.5)

The Legend of a Rogue cover

Two years ago, storyteller Elspeth Marshall spent a magical afternoon with a handsome stranger. Roy enthralled her with the legend of a mystical sword—almost as much as with his kiss. When she encounters him at a Highland inn, she hears the sword may be real…and that his name isn’t Roy. She determines to find the blade as well as the truth about the enigmatic man she hasn’t been able to forget.

Wounded at Culloden, Tavish Crawford lost his family legacy, a centuries-old sword on the battlefield. Now many people would like to find it, including a villainous secret society and the captivating woman who has remained in his memory. When nefarious forces overtake the inn, he’ll do whatever it takes to protect the sword and the woman who has stolen his heart.

A fun series prequel AND a historical homage to my favorite Christmas movie–an win-win! (Though I will admit I went into this knowing it was supposed to be a historical version of Die Hard and it took a while to get to the Die Hard-ish bits, aside from the hero’s current alias–but once it did, they come at you hard and fast! Not quite “now I have a machine gun” fast, but close.)

The Legend of a Rogue was a fun read. It’s a prequel to the League of Rogues/Legendary Rogues series, and is a fun read whether you’ve read any of the series books or not (yet). It’s hard not to love a story-telling, research-loving heroine and a rogue-ish, doing secret undercover work and using aliases hero separately, together they’re magic! The style of the story is a bit different from Ms Burke’s Regency series (The Untouchables, The Pretenders, Spitfire Society) but if you’ve been wondering if her more swashbuckling Rogues series is for you, this is a great one to try!
