Honestly? My favorite of the series! (And maybe the last? IDK who is left for her to write a book around, which is a shame…)
I’ve been looking forward to Francesca’s story since she debuted in the series, and it did not disappoint…Ronan, though? He had a lot to make up for–not only was he a jerk in an earlier book, but he pulled a real a-hole move on the track in the first scenes of this one. Fortunately, redemption arcs are a thing, and Ms Bennett knows how to write an effective one. It’s always easier to empathize with characters when we can finally see inside their heads and start to understand what makes them tick and why they might be acting the way they do. By the second half or so of the book, I was firmly in both of their corners!
Be warned, though–you might want to have tissues handy near the end. Ms Bennett sneaks in one heck of an emotional scene, and I was not ready for it.
I listened to the audio version, which was beautifully narrated by its two voice actors. Kit Swann especially did a fabulous job switching accents between the various characters, smoothly switching between Francesca’s Italian and Posey’s American and Ronan’s British voices with ease.
