When everything is on the line,
surrendering completely to love is your only choice…
Marketing manager Caila Harris knows that the road to success in the beauty industry doesn’t allow for detours. She’s forsaken any trace of a social life, working 24/7 to ensure her next promotion. When grief over her grandfather’s death leads to several catastrophic decisions, Caila gets one final chance to prove herself: shut down an unprofitable factory in a small Southern town. But as soon as she arrives in Bradleton, she meets one outsized problem: the town’s gorgeous mayor.
Wyatt Bradley isn’t thrilled about his nickname, Mayor McHottie. He’s even less happy to learn that his town might be losing its biggest employer. If he has to, he’ll use some sneaky tactics to get Caila on his side. Yet even as he’s hoping she’ll fall for Bradleton, he’s falling too—right into a combustible affair that shakes them both with its intensity.
Two stubborn people, torn between loyalty, ambition, and attraction. But when you’re willing to give it your all, there’s no limit to how far love can take you…
She pointed a finger at him. “You’re too charming for your own good.”
“First, you said I was hot. Now you’re calling me charming. Are you sure you’re not the one trying to influence me?”
Her bark of genuine amusement warmed him, and continued to thaw her, her posture relaxing, her face open, her grin wide. He’d been attracted to her from the moment he laid eyes on her, but damn . . . she’d never looked more beautiful.
She shoved his shoulder. “You wish.”
He grabbed her retreating hand. “Yeah, I do.”
He stroked his thumb across her palm and her eyes widened. So did his.
What was he doing?
This was a bad idea. He was tempting fate. But on that quiet street, standing on the porch, with the air and fall scents swirling around them, they could’ve been the only two people in the world. He felt like he was back in high school, dropping his date off, wondering if he dared try for a kiss.
My first from Tracey Livesay, but definitely not my last! I loved the way she framed the story with the “girls’ trip” starting off this book and hinting at the next. We get a glimpse at the four friends’ distinct personalities, and enjoy their friendship and camaraderie. The bulk of the book is very much Caila’s story–it seems that the stories should work fine as standalones–but this one at least really has me looking forward to the others.
Caila and Wyatt’s story was a lot of fun to read. Their chemistry was great, and even though their story is a bit insta-lustish, it’s not totally unbelievable in its timeline. The fact that both characters are lying to/hiding something from the other is less than ideal, but it’s easy to see why each makes that choice, and both own up to their choices eventually making the “grand gesture” en route to their HEA a group effort.
I listened to most of this one on audio and really enjoyed the narrator.
