Release Day Review! REVENGE OF THE SUNSHINE by Jackie Lau (Love & Spite #1)

cover of the revenge of the sunshine by jackie lau.

One brother did her wrong. The other will do her right.

I’m a cheerful and forgiving person. But when I catch my boyfriend sleeping with my roommate, I have something new on my revenge. How can I make his life as miserable as possible?

By dating his older brother. Well, pretending to date.

Bennett Chung, the CEO of a successful Asian grocery chain, has his own reasons for agreeing to my plan. He even takes it a step further by offering me his spare bedroom. Just until I find a new apartment.

Bennett is set in his ways, works too much, and won’t tell me anything about his past. He could really do with a bit of fun.

But as I continue to get on his nerves, I start to find him…charming? Attractive? That can’t be right.

This was just supposed to be a temporary arrangement, but now, I’m not so sure…

Revenge of the Sunshine is the first book in the Love & Spite series and can be read as a standalone. Perfect for fans of steamy romantic comedies and fake dating, Zoe and Bennett’s opposites-attract story features an elderly cat, a couples Halloween costume contest, supportive friends, and middle-of-the-night shenanigans.

Review:

Fake (revenge) relationship FTW!

I can’t even express in words how excited I was to see that Jackie Lau has a new series–and book 1 absolutely lived up to my expectations! Zoe and Bennett have a opposites attract, close/forced proximity, fake relationship-relationship, and even though they are also a slow burn relationship, from the second their relationship gets going, they’re pretty much #couplegoals.

And he’s an elderly cat’s cat dad…she has her own room! Boyfriend material doesn’t even begin to describe this guy <3

Bennett’s got a tragic past–he’s still very much grieving when Zoe comes into his life–and watching him give in to a relationship with her made my heart happy. It gets in his way before their HEA (yes, there is a third act breakup, but really as much as they stress me out at times there are just relationships that need that, and this is one), but the way he manages to ultimately move on with Zoe felt 100% authentic.

The usual warnings apply here–so much delicious food (and drink) is mentioned, beware if reading while hungry! I also love that characters from multiple series visit so many of the same places–it really makes reading a Jackie Lau book almost feel like an immersive experience. I *know* that bar, I’ve been there before! I can practically taste the hard cider at the cidery… 🙂

I absolutely cannot wait for the next book!
