Wounded warrior Travis Quinn battles against memory loss and time to locate Mara Escareno, the mother of his unborn child, when she is kidnapped and sold into the dark and dangerous world of human trafficking.
Fans of Kaylea Cross, Cristin Harber, and Lynn Rae Harris will enjoy the dark, emotional and sexy third book in the Hornet series by Tonya Burrows…
Ice-cold and unbreakable, Travis Quinn is the HORNET team’s hard-ass. No weaknesses. Except, of course, for the accident that not only destroyed his career as a Navy SEAL, but left terrifying blanks in his memory. But Travis remembers everything about Mara Escareno—the curve of her lips, the feel of her body…and how he walked out on her suddenly six weeks ago.
Mara could never resist the dangerously sexy Travis, which is probably how she ended up pregnant and disowned by her family. But before Travis can fully process the news, Mara is kidnapped by his enemies and plunged into the violent, merciless world of human trafficking. They want Travis—and the information locked within his damaged memory—no matter the cost. And now Travis’s enemies have discovered his only weakness…Mara.
Review:
Better buckle up for this one–Broken Honor reads like an action film–just with a better and more believable romance plot than your average one 🙂
Our hero Travis Quinn is still suffering consequences from the major blow to the head that ended his SEAL career–his debilitating headaches and ever-increasing blackouts have kept him from taking on the team’s more intense jobs. One of his “easy” assignments involved guarding his teammate’s smart and sexy cousin–now, several weeks after their unforgettable week together that he ultimately ran from, she’s got some life-changing news for him.
Mara had pretty much resigned herself to being a single mother when Quinn showed up at her front door. Her unexpected news has him running once again, but not before he inadvertently clues the people who still want him dead in to his ultimate weakness: Mara Escareno and their unborn baby.
Fortunately he was already turning back around to try and make up for his cowardly maneuver; unfortunately she’s already been nabbed…so it’s the HORNET team to the rescue!
Russian human traffickers, former SAS-agents with revenge on their minds, a team of dirty SEALs, and the man who is the mastermind behind it all kick the action into high gear, and it doesn’t stop until the very last chapter. I’ll warn you now–try to stop reading this at your own risk!
Quinn has some major hurdles to get past on his way to a HEA, and Mara’s right, until he can get his act together and his head back on straight–both medically and mentally–she can’t let him be a part of her and the baby’s ever after. Fortunately for them all, not only does the team succeed in defeating the bad guys but Quinn also comes to terms with his past and is able to finally believe in the possibility of a future.
It definitely doesn’t hurt his cause that his idea for how to show this to Mara is absolutely adorable–even if it is nearly ruined by one last surprise encounter with the remaining bad guy.
But hey–if you work it right, a bullet hole can be a decorative accent, right? 😉
I had an absolute blast reading this one. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up!
Though it’s the third book in the series and I have yet to read books one and two (and I own book one in print already–I have no excuse for my slackerdom), I didn’t have any problem following along. If you have read them, you’ll enjoy seeing the characters again and the resolution to the underlying plot from the series start will be more satisfying; if you haven’t, you’ll probably be fine–but chances are you’ll be adding them ( SEAL of Honor and Honor Reclaimed ) to your TBR before you’ve gotten to the last page.
