Beauty salon… and the Beast
Quinn: Working at the family wedding resort wasn’t exactly on my Bingo card. But it’s the only way for my siblings and me to get our grandfather’s inheritance, so here I am, staffing the Hott Spot Spa and Salon front desk. It’s an absurd gig for a man who makes Oscar the Grouch look like a people-person.
Still, I’m a hard worker. I’ve made a fortune off my scientific discoveries, and if I can engineer groundbreaking drugs, I can do anything, right? Not according to Sonya Rossi, the spa’s smoking hot and relentlessly perky manager. My grumpy approach is testing even sunshine-y Sonya’s patience. Meanwhile, I’m not sure whether I want to rain on her parade—or kiss the smile off her face.
Then the universe throws another curveball, putting us under the same roof. The closer Sonya gets, the more I like it—and her. I want to get to know her better and let her see the side of me I never show people. Until now, I’ve only believed in what I can touch, sense, and prove. I definitely don’t believe in love… but Sonya’s making me wish I could.
A spicy, grumpy-sunshine, opposites attract, under-one-roof, forced proximity standalone romantic comedy set in the beloved small town of Rush Creek.
Such a fun start to a new (spinoff) series!
Grumpy/sunshine romances are quickly becoming one of my favorite tropes, and books like this one are exactly why. I really enjoy when they’re dual POV as well, because we can see the grumpiness from the outside (in this case, Sonya’s POV) and how the grump *really* feels from theirs (Quinn’s)–and watching them as they start to fall for the other, sunnier MC? Priceless. Seeing what’s going on inside their brains that often causes them to come off as gruff and grumpy to everyone else? Heartbreaking–but as the sunshine person starts to figure them out, we get to share in all the feels, and that is inarguably the best thing ever. <3
Along with an absolutely swoony romance, there was a lot to LOL over here as well–Quinn’s chemistry-themed t-shirts were top notch, seeing him accidentally flirt with the spa’s older clientele was just too funny (as one “seventy-three and fresh out of f*cks” client puts it, he does an excellent job of “improving the view” in the waiting room), and of course the banter between Sonya and Quinn (as well as between all the Hott siblings) is stellar, as usual. I always know when I pick up a Serena Bell book that I’ll be in for a fun read, and this one was no exception!
For readers who are familiar with Ms Bell’s Wilder Adventures series, you’ll enjoy seeing some favorite characters here. Not only are the Hott guys Hanna’s brothers, but since she’s married to Easton Wilder now and they’re running the business on the ranch that the will is making everyone work to save, the odd Wilder or two (or seven!) is bound to show up. And I don’t want to spoil anything, but something might happen in this book that guarantees every single series character will at least pop in to say hello…
Newbies to Ms Bell’s books will still find a lot to love here–no prior knowledge of Rush Creek or its people is necessary. But I make no guarantees that reading this one won’t make you immediately add the other series to your TBR…and hey, at least that’ll keep you somewhat busy until Shane’s book comes out, right? 😉
